Time and Communication

Turkey is in the Eastern European Time zone (EET, GMT+3) and does not observe daylight saving time. The main mobile operators are Turkcell, Vodafone, and Türk Telekom, providing extensive coverage and good quality across the country.

Money and shopping

The local currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY). The exchange rate fluctuates but as of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, it’s approximately 8.4 TRY to 1 USD. Other currencies are not commonly accepted in most places. Credit and debit cards, especially Visa and MasterCard, are widely accepted. However, in smaller shops and rural areas, cash is often preferred. Currency exchange offices are typically open during regular business hours.

Transportation

Public buses, trams, and metro systems are common in the major cities of Turkey. Taxis are also widely available. For intercity travel, there are comfortable and efficient coach services, and for longer distances, domestic flights are available.
